Zack (Rogg-Meltzer) Rome

Senior Director, Talent Acquisition - Operations & Technology - NBCUniversal

For Zack (Rogg-Meltzer) Rome, recruiting began as an unexpected pivot from the career path he originally imagined.

His early plan was to work in the music industry, and many of his internships and first roles were connected to that space. After pivoting into sales for about a year, Zack realized it was not the right long-term fit.

While exploring related opportunities, he came across an entry-level role with an executive search firm.

That role became his way into talent acquisition.

“Very randomly, that’s how I got my foot in the door,” he says. “And 15 years later, I’m still doing it.”

Learning From Strong Leaders

Looking back, Zack feels fortunate to have worked with leaders who positively shaped his career.

One of those leaders is Susan Voulay, his current boss and Global Head of Talent at NBCUniversal, who has been a strong influence in his current chapter.

Earlier in his career, Rodel Wright helped Zack build his recruiting foundation on the agency side, teaching him core recruiting practices and helping him “cut his teeth” in the field.

At NBCUniversal, Jesse Sarah also played an important role by bringing Zack into the organization, where he has now spent the last decade growing his career.

Leading Through Change and AI

As a tech recruiting leader, Zack has a close view of how AI is changing both business and talent acquisition.

He sees his team as early adopters within the broader talent organization, especially when it comes to testing new tools and technologies across sourcing, scheduling, screening, and candidate experience.

While he is excited by the innovation happening in the space, he also recognizes that the market is crowded.

“There are a million vendors in the marketplace,” he says. “And some are overpromising what they can currently deliver.”

Still, Zack sees this moment as a rare opportunity for talent leaders to help shape the future of recruiting from the ground up.

Advice for Talent Leaders

Zack’s advice is simple: prioritize people first, then process, then technology.

For him, great recruiting starts with hiring, enabling, training, coaching, and developing the right people. Strong processes come next. Technology should support both, not replace them.

He also encourages talent leaders to stay focused on business impact.

Everything a recruiting team does should be viewed through the lens of whether it helps the business succeed.

If it does not, he believes teams should reconsider how they are spending their time.

For Zack, one of the most exciting parts of tech recruiting is that it never stays still.

There is always a new transformation, new technology, or new way of working around the corner.

That constant evolution is part of what keeps the work meaningful.

His advice to professionals is to stay committed to continuous learning and take advantage of the tools and resources available now.

“Don’t wait a couple of years until you’re forced to,” he says.

By combining people-first leadership, business focus, adaptability, and curiosity, Zack (Rogg-Meltzer) Rome represents the kind of talent leader helping organizations navigate the next era of recruiting with clarity and purpose.
