Global Talent Acquisition Leader, TransUnion
For Neil Crumpton, recruiting wasn’t something he accidentally stumbled into—it was a career he intentionally pursued from an early age.
While growing up in the United Kingdom, Neil became fascinated with the world of recruiting as a teenager. What stood out to him most was the opportunity to work across different projects, connect with people from diverse backgrounds, and operate on a truly global scale.
Unlike many leaders who “fell into” recruiting later in life, Neil chose the profession by design.
That passion ultimately led him to study occupational and industrial psychology at university, equipping him with a deeper understanding of human behavior, workplace dynamics, and interpersonal interactions—all skills he believed would help him succeed in recruiting.
Once he completed his degree, he stepped directly into the recruiting industry and began building what would become a globally focused talent acquisition career.
“Whilst I didn’t grow up thinking about being a recruiter, as a teenager, it became my passion and my focus,” he shared.
Over the years, Neil has built an international career spanning Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the Americas—developing a reputation as a strategic talent leader with a strong focus on innovation, global thinking, and the future of recruiting.
Today, as a Global Talent Acquisition Leader at TransUnion, he continues to help shape the evolution of talent acquisition through AI, automation, and forward-thinking leadership.
What Shaped His Leadership Philosophy
Neil credits several leaders and organizations throughout his career for helping shape his global mindset and leadership approach.
One of the earliest influences came while working at a boutique search firm in England, where a COO named David—an ex-military leader—gave him the opportunity to lead talent sourcing efforts across Europe.
That experience expanded Neil’s perspective beyond working within a single country and introduced him to the complexities of global recruiting, cross-cultural communication, and international workforce dynamics.
“It really did allow me to start thinking global,” he explained.
Another major influence came during his time at Korn Ferry International, where leadership recognized and leaned into his growing global expertise. In a unique role based in the UK, Neil conducted searches across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas—long before modern recruiting technologies like LinkedIn existed.
At the time, success depended heavily on relationship-building, networking, and deep market understanding.
Those experiences helped sharpen Neil’s strategic thinking and reinforced the importance of adaptability in global talent acquisition.
Today, Neil says one of his biggest influences is his current manager, Annette, at TransUnion. She recognized both his expertise in AI-driven recruiting and his passion for innovation, expanding his role from a U.S.-focused position into a broader global leadership role.
Neil credits her with continuously challenging him to think bigger, avoid accepting the status quo, and keep pushing innovation forward.
How Recruiting Is Evolving
Neil believes the recruiting industry is experiencing a revolution—not simply an evolution—driven largely by the rapid rise of AI and automation.
His first meaningful exposure to AI in recruiting came several years ago through tools designed to improve job descriptions and postings by making them more inclusive, engaging, and candidate-friendly.
Since then, he has watched AI quickly expand into nearly every aspect of talent acquisition.
Today, Neil sees AI helping recruiters automate repetitive tasks, simplify workflows, improve efficiency, and provide better guidance throughout the hiring process. At the same time, he believes human recruiters still play a critical role in decision-making and relationship management.
“We still have humans in the loop,” he explained.
One of the biggest challenges, in his view, is the speed difference between candidates adopting AI tools and corporations implementing them internally. While candidates can begin leveraging new technologies almost immediately, organizations often move more slowly due to governance, testing, compliance, and budget considerations.
Even so, Neil believes AI is ultimately creating enormous opportunities for recruiters and talent teams.
Rather than replacing recruiters, he sees technology giving talent professionals something they’ve long struggled to find: time.
Time to become true talent advisors.
Time to think strategically.
And time to create healthier work-life balance across recruiting teams.
Neil also believes the future of recruiting will extend beyond simple automation into more advanced AI-driven systems and digital workforce support.
Neil’s Advice for Talent Leaders in 2026
Looking ahead, Neil encourages talent leaders to stay intellectually curious and fully embrace AI and automation rather than fear them.
He compares today’s AI movement to the arrival of the internet decades ago—a transformational shift that permanently changed the recruiting industry.
According to Neil, the same thing is happening again.
“The same is true for AI and automation agents,” he said. “If you don’t embrace it, you’re going to get left behind.”
For leaders who are hesitant, his advice is simple: start exploring now.
Neil believes AI can support nearly every part of the recruiting process when used responsibly and strategically. He encourages recruiters to experiment with new technologies, learn continuously, and use AI within the parameters their organizations allow.
Most importantly, he believes AI can finally help recruiters evolve into the strategic talent advisors organizations have talked about for years but rarely had the capacity to become.
By automating administrative tasks and improving operational efficiency, recruiters can spend more time building relationships, influencing hiring strategy, and driving long-term business impact.
That combination of global perspective, innovative thinking, and passion for the future of recruiting is what makes Neil Crumpton a standout leader in talent acquisition—and a deserving member of the Talent 100.
