Like many talent acquisition leaders, Josh Moore never set out to build a career in recruiting.

Originally planning to follow a traditional human resources path, Josh found himself joining a staffing agency early in his career—a move that introduced him to the world of recruiting.

What began as an unexpected opportunity has since evolved into more than 25 years of helping organizations solve one of their biggest challenges: finding the right talent.

"I really enjoy connecting the dots between what a business needs and finding the right talent in the market to meet those needs," Josh says.

Today, that passion extends beyond recruiting itself.

He now enjoys helping others develop the craft, building stronger recruiting teams, and teaching future talent leaders how to think strategically about hiring.

The Leaders Who Bet on Potential

Reflecting on his career, Josh says the individuals who had the greatest impact on him all shared one important quality.

They believed in him before he fully believed in himself.

Rather than focusing solely on his previous experience, these leaders recognized his character and potential.

They gave him opportunities that stretched his abilities, challenged him to grow, and trusted him with responsibilities beyond his comfort zone.

"They stood behind me and pushed me beyond what I thought I could do," he explains.

Those leaders also understood the importance of allowing people to learn through experience.

They created an environment where Josh could experiment, make mistakes, and develop—while still providing the guidance and support needed to succeed.

He describes it as giving him "the rope to go try, build, and learn," while providing the "bumpers in the lane" that kept him moving in the right direction.

That balance between trust, accountability, and mentorship has become a defining influence on his own leadership philosophy.

AI Is Changing Recruiting Faster Than Ever

Josh believes the pace of change over the past year has been unlike anything recruiting has experienced before.

"What we've seen in the last nine to twelve months—you can't keep up. It's moving too fast," he says.

Artificial intelligence has quickly evolved from being an emerging concept to becoming part of recruiters' daily workflows.

Rather than viewing AI as something to fear, Josh sees it as an essential capability that every recruiting professional should begin developing now.

His advice is practical.

Spend fifteen to thirty minutes every day learning.

Experiment with new tools.

Build simple routines.

Stay consistent.

Small investments in learning today will compound into major advantages tomorrow.

Using AI to Create Better Talent Advisors

While AI continues automating administrative work, Josh believes its greatest value lies in giving recruiters more time to focus on strategic work.

Many recruiting tasks consume valuable hours.

Administrative processes.

Manual workflows.

Routine operational work.

As AI increasingly handles those responsibilities, recruiters gain more opportunities to engage with business leaders, understand workforce challenges, and build stronger relationships with candidates.

"The recruiting chair becomes more strategic," Josh explains.

Rather than replacing recruiters, AI enables them to become better talent advisors by allowing them to spend more time where they create the greatest value.

Curiosity Is a Competitive Advantage

When asked what advice he would offer other talent leaders, Josh immediately points to curiosity.

In an industry evolving as quickly as talent acquisition, leaders cannot afford to become complacent.

They must intentionally create time to understand what is changing beyond the walls of their own organization.

"I think the biggest thing I could say is stay curious and stay hungry," he says.

Whether it's AI, labor market trends, or new recruiting technologies, continuous learning has become essential for anyone leading talent organizations.

Josh believes curiosity is no longer optional.

It is one of the most important leadership skills for navigating today's recruiting landscape.

Lead with Humility

Alongside curiosity, Josh believes humility is equally important.

The recruiting landscape changes too quickly for anyone to have every answer.

Great leaders are comfortable admitting when they don't know something.

Instead of pretending to have all the solutions, they commit to finding them.

"Be okay saying, 'I don't have the answer, but I'll find out,'" Josh advises.

That mindset creates stronger leaders while encouraging continuous learning across entire organizations.

The Power of Community

Josh also emphasizes the importance of building relationships with other talent leaders outside your own company.

As recruiting becomes increasingly complex, having a trusted network creates opportunities to share ideas, compare experiences, and solve challenges together.

"It makes you feel less insane in your day-to-day when you have a community to connect with," he says.

More often than not, other talent leaders are navigating similar issues.

Those conversations provide valuable benchmarks, fresh perspectives, and practical ideas that leaders can bring back into their own organizations.

Advice for Talent Leaders

For Josh Moore, the future of talent acquisition belongs to leaders who embrace continuous learning.

Technology will continue evolving.

AI will continue reshaping recruiting workflows.

Business needs will continue changing.

The leaders who thrive will be those who remain curious, stay humble, and invest in learning every day.

By combining strategic thinking with a willingness to learn from others, Josh believes talent leaders can better influence business decisions, strengthen recruiting organizations, and create lasting impact.

For Josh, success isn't about having every answer.

It's about staying curious enough to keep finding them.
